figure skating 101
PROGRAM AGES: 5 and older
PROGRAM FREQUENCY: Meets once per week for 8 weeks. 6 sessions offered in total over the course of the full year.
PROGRAM CURRICULUM: Learn to Skate USA: Basic Skills levels 3 through 6 and Free Skate levels 1 through 6
As an introduction to the sport of figure skating, participants will build upon the fundamental skills learned in the Skating 101 program. Participants receive expert instruction in the essential aspects of figure skating, including footwork, mastering edges, spinning, and jumping—all guided by a meticulously crafted curriculum endorsed by the United Skates Figure Skating Association. Our team of world-class instructors is dedicated to cultivating a positive and inspiring learning atmosphere, ensuring that every student has the chance to excel in this sport while thoroughly enjoying the journey.
The program is run through a partnership with the Genesee Figure Skating Club. Established in 1954, Genesee Figure Skating Club (GFSC) stands as Rochester's premier figure skating organization. GFSC is a member club of US Figure Skating, the national governing body for the sport. They provide a comprehensive array of activities for skaters of every skill and age level, including practice ice sessions, group and private training options, in-house ice shows, social gatherings, and a pathway for skaters to participate in competitions GFSC provides the opportunities for skaters to reach their goals for fitness and fun in the sport of figure skating.
As part of this program, each participant receives an annual membership with the United States Figure Skating Association's Learn to Skate USA program. This membership includes a subscription to Learn To Skate USA The Magazine, a record book to track each skaters improvement, secondary sport accident insurance, and the opportunity to participate in lessons, performances, competitions, and all activities associated with Learn to Skate USA.
